Weronika Weiss
Born in Warsaw in 2002 she started playing the violin at the age of 6. With mother -choreographer, and father- an opera director, she grew up on the stage and was constantly surrounded by music, dance and the artistic environment. She has been participating in competitions since she was seven years old and has won first and special prizes in over 30 international competitions for young students in Poland and abroad. She has won both first prize and Grand Prix at Tadeusz Wroński competition for violin solo in 2014 and 2018 as a youngest participant. In 2014 she was awarded 2nd prize at 18th Bohdan Warhal „Talents of Europe” Music Competition in Slovakia. In 2019 she was the winner of third prize at 25th Dinu Lipatti violin competition in Bucharest, Romania. In 2018 she won the Red Stradivarius music competition held by Luzerne music centre in New York. She has received scholarships from Ministry of Culture and Art of Poland, and Franciszek Wybrańczyk art scholarship sponsored by Sinfonia Varsovia one of the best orchestras in Europe. Besides competitions she took part in several masterclasses and courses in Poland and abroad. In 2014 she was a part of the Lusławice Talents Orchestra, a project created by Krzysztof Penderecki with whom she had a close relationship with and considered her mentor. The concerts of Talents Orchestra were part of a festival that hosted the biggest names in classical music including Anne-Sophie Mutter.
During her musical study years she performed solo and chamber music in countries such as Austria, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Serbia, Slovenia etc. In 2018 she performed Sibelius violin concerto with the Luzerne Symphonic Orchestra at the international music course and competition in New York. She has also taken part in various theatre performances working closely with dancers and creating live music background for dance-theatre productions, that were shown in all most important theatres in Warsaw. At 11 years old she was chosen for a violin solo in an opera production that premiered in Paris in UNESCO hall. Since 2020 she has been invited to play in „Trzy-Cztery” music festival in prestigious Lutosławski Studio in Warsaw, Lerici Music Festival in Italy and Stift Music Festival in the Netherlands.
She finished the secondary music-school in Warsaw in 2020, and since 2022 she is a Bachelor degree student at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the class of Peter Brunt. She had the chance to work with artists such as Alena Baeva, Konstanty Andrzej-Kulka, Lukasz Borowicz, Bartosz Bryła, Krzysztof Jakowicz, Robert Kulek, Krzysztof Penderecki, Agnieszka Duczmal, Mark Messenger, Elżbieta Sikora, Robert Lipsett and Madeleine Jansen.
Since 2021 she plays the Premysl Otakar Spidlen violin made in 1961 granted to her by the Polish Association of Violin Makers.
