The Martin String Quartet, consisting of Sam Panner (violin), Weronika Weiss (violin), Anna Meenderink (viola) and Ori Ron (cello), was formed in October 2023 at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and is currently part of the NSKA (Netherlands String Quartet Academy) post-graduate program. The quartet has studied with various leading artists including Dmitry Ferschtman, Marc Danel, Yovan Markovich and members of the Ebene, Jerusalem, Casals, Ysäye, and Alban Berg Quartets. They won the First Prize at the Gelre Chamber Music Competition in the small hall of Het Concertgebouw de Vereeniging in Nijmegen. In September 2026 they took part in the prestigious ARD competition in Munich. They are current finalists of the 2026/27 Dutch Classical Talent Competition, for which they will complete a tour of the Netherlands in March/April 2027. The quartet made their debut in the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw Amsterdam in March, 2025, performing Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte.
Alongside their devotion to the canonical string quartet repertoire, the Martin String Quartet has a deep interest in contemporary works. They have premiered compositions by their own cellist, Ori Ron. Each member has additional interests – dance, jazz music – that give depth to their collective music making. They each also pursue a varied career of music making in orchestral, chamber orchestral, and solo settings, working with top groups in the Netherlands.
