The Martin String Quartet, consisting of Sam Panner (violin), Weronika Weiss (violin), Anna Meenderink (viola) and Ori Ron (cello), was formed in October 2023 at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. The quartet studies at the Conservatorium with Dmitry Ferschtman, Sven Arne Tepl, and Judith van Driel. As members of the Netherlands String Quartet Academy, they study with Marc Danel. They have participated in masterclasses with members of the London Haydn, Jerusalem, Casals, Marmen, and Alban Berg Quartets. They won the First Prize and the Grachtenfestivalprijs at the 2024 Gelre Chamber Music Competition in the small hall of Het Concertgebouw de Vereeniging in Nijmegen. The quartet made their debut in the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw Amsterdam in March, 2025, performing Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte. Highlights of the 2025/26 season include their Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ recital debut, as well as appearances in Dudok Muziekdagen, Wonderfeel festival, and Grachtenfestival.

 

Alongside their devotion to the canonical string quartet repertoire, the Martin String Quartet have a deep interest in contemporary works. They have premiered compositions by their own cellist, Ori Ron. Each member also pursues a varied career in orchestral, chamber, and solo settings, working with the leading ensembles in the Netherlands and internationally.

 

Anna Meenderink plays on a viola by Roger Hargrave from 1993 and bow by Johann Stüber, both on loan from the Nationaal Muziekinstrumenten Fonds. Weronika Weiss plays on a violin by Antonio Gagliano on loan by Stowarzyszenie Polskich Artystów Lutników.
